REASI: With an objective to Promote & preserve Tradition and Culture of J&K UT; District Administration Reasi in collaboration Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) is all set to organise One-Day Cultural & craft Mela on Monday at village Bakkal – the abode to the world’s highest Railway Bridge District.
Speaking at a press conference here today, Deputy Commissioner, Babila Rakwal said that the objective behind organising the festival was ‘to promote our traditional and cultural heritage and make our younger generation part of it and to carry it forward for future generations and to provide youth a platform to display and showcase their talent.’
Pertinent to mention here that Bakkal is situated on the banks of the River Chenab and one-hour journey away from Reasi. The scenic village holds the potential to emerge as a tourist destination with the world’s highest railway bridge. “The village has the potential to grow as a Tourist gateway known for its location and scenic beauty with the countryside as a backdrop”, the DC said.
She informed that this Mela/festival forms one of the many endeavours being made to revive the rich culture and heritage of Jammu and Kashmir. “The event will witness a scintillating cultural show featuring folk music and dance like Kud, Bakh, Massadey, Geetru, Chajja, Haran, Jagarna, etc. with the aim to spread cross-cultural awareness amongst the visitors and the locals” she said.
She added that the festival will be holistic in nature displaying local crafts and cuisine via various stalls/kiosks. “We have invited regional crafts persons, self-help groups, and people via concerned Agencies/Departments/Organizations to set up their stalls at the venue to present the visitors a mix of Jammu and Kashmir’s Culture” she added.
Moreso, the Academy and District Administration is providing a platform to the youth by involving school/college students to participate in the event and display their talent in different art forms and crafts” she informed further.
A Nukkad team is already performing at major locations in and around the venue, generating awareness about the social causes and simultaneously advertising the event. The impact of the programme will be multi-faceted, she hoped.
She reiterated that the location of the programme will re-draw the visibility to the site — The World’s Highest Railway Bridge. “It will increase the traction to the site and bring the much-required publicity to the place” she said.
She further said that the promotional activities will preserve the sanctity of the festival and also help to provide subsistence and motivation to more than 200 artists. This programme will ultimately help in the preservation and promotion of Traditional and Cultural Festivals, and it is expected that this will bring a sense of belongingness and a sense of community amongst the local people, which will go a long way, the DC hoped.
She also said that UT of J&K was bestowed with immense natural beauty and an array of diverse cultures which need to be preserved and promoted in its true essence. “Vibrant Dogra Culture holds a legacy and Pahari the most significant component of it which needs to be preserved in totto” she asserted.
