Lakhanpur Facilitation Centre- Braving the COVID storm

KATHUA: Government has turned Lakhanpur entry point of Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir into a major Facilitation Centre to facilitate the passengers and regulate their movement as per advisories, protocol and SOPs laid down by MHA/UT administration from time to time.

Since the beginning of lockdown, Lakhanpur Facilitation Centre has registered arrival of around 88000 passengers, chiefly natives of Jammu and Kashmir who were stuck in different parts of the country and also those stuck in foreign countries besides giving regulated access to army, Para military personnel, emergency services and essential supplies.

Foreseeing the arrival of large influx of returnees, District administration Kathua constituted 6 arrival and dispatch teams headed by senior officers working 24x7 for regulated movement of passengers to their respective home districts.

The foremost challenge while receiving, segregating and dispatching the arriving passengers was to make this process hassle free, less time consuming with maintaining strict social distancing.

After district wise sorting of passengers the teams would liaison in advance with Nodal Officers of Quarantine Centres of the respective districts for ensuring these passengers to be kept in administrative quarantine. The logistics such as buses provided by JKSRTC and food/water facility was provided to the passengers while allowing for onward journey to their districts. The dispatch of district wise convoys comprising JKRTC buses, private buses and personal LMV were escorted by Jammu and Kashmir Police teams so that no one was escaped from undergoing administrative quarantine.

Kathua district being entrance gate of the UT was given the task of keeping the passengers from rest of the districts in administrative quarantine and accordingly accommodated evacuees/ returnees of almost all the districts of Jammu & Kashmir in as many as 139 well managed Quarantine centres. The district has so far kept and discharged over 14000 persons from different quarantine facilities after successful completion of their quarantine period and having them tested negative.

Kathua district at its peak housed 6067 inmates from various districts in 139 different quarantine centres.

Medical Screening counters were established with team of doctors and paramedics performing mandatory medical screening of each arriving passengers round the clock. Passenger with high fever or symptomatic would undergo COVID-19 test at Sample collection centre established at Lakhanpur for incoming passengers. Medical teams were also assisted by clerical staff of civil departments in the registration of passengers.

A 24 hours operational Control Room established at Lakhanpur Facilitation Centre is attending numerous queries of people of UT on day today basis. The Control Room is responding to 100 to 400 calls a day and guiding people for their coordinated safe return.

A dedicated booth was also established for fast processing of passes for patients coming in ambulance/private vehicles on priority.

Help desk-24x7 was instrumental in guiding the passengers besides time to time announcement of important messages through Public Address System.

To ensure uninterrupted access to army and other paramilitary forces and persons of essential services, a separate point was kept operational to clear their entry in conformity with the directives of MHA/ UT administration.

A separate six lane entry point was earmarked to handle smooth entry of trucks with essentials/ non-essentials commodities.

As per the latest directives of lockdown, all truck drivers have to undergo mandatory Covid-19 test at Lakhanpur, for which special medical teams are working 24X7 to maintain smooth supply of essential and non essential commodities into the Union Territory.

To cope with the hot weather conditions, temporary structure like German Hanger Tent having capacity of 350 persons, canvas shed and a makeshift Sarai in Animal Husbandry Building was put to use for safe stay of incoming passengers.

Amenities such as free meal, RO drinking water points and temporary toilets were established at various locations for the use of passengers at Lakhanpur entry point.

Safety Measures such as fumigation of all sections of Lakhanpur Facilitation Centre, distribution of masks and sanitizers among the teams operating day and night remain a regular affair at Lakhanpur.

Even during lockdown stranded migrants labourers was an issue for that district administration constituted a team lead by SSP Kathua comprising more than 300 volunteers and designated the team with the name "United Kathua". The united Kathua during the period of two months of lockdown distributed more than 10 lakh food packets to the needy labourers and local through langars thus played an unforgettable role in the pandemic. The team also a regular Langar service at Lakhanpur facilitation Centre.  

The district administration has mobilized men and machinery to ensure regulated movement of passengers in accordance with latest SOP's issued by MHA/ UT administration.

Deputy Commissioner Kathua O.P Bhagat informed that "So far we have managed the arrival of around 88000 passengers, their medical screening and sampling as prescribed". Besides, "the safe stay of passengers in quarantine centres, cleanliness was our top priority for which an innovation played an important role when we provided free laundry services for inmates of quarantine centres," he added.

Till date Kathua administration successfully dispatched around 14000 inmates who completed their quarantine period of 14 days/tested negative. "We hope that the fight against Corona shall culminate soon in UT of J&K, stay home stay safe", advises DC Kathua.  

Roller Athlete installs ceilingfans, provides stationery to Drishti girls hostel

JAMMU: Roller Athlete Skating Club Jindrah, under its "Note book and sports for every student initiative" installs 12 ceiling fans and provided stationery to the outstanding students of Drishti (Janak Madaan Kanya Shatravas) Pouni Chak, Jammu under the supervision Ankush Kohli (International Roller Hockey player).

The Chief guest on the occasion was Rajinder Singh Chib Chairman Municipal Committee, Ghou  Manhasan.

Speaking at the occasion, he wished all the students for their great and prosperous future and said that the day is not far when we see the talented students of this Shatravas holding the higher positions in various departments. Dwarka Nath Sharma (Incharge, Shatravas) lauded the selfless efforts of the Skating Club and hoped that the club would help the students of the Shatravas with their vast sports and educational experiences in the future.

The members of the club visited the whole campus of the Kanya Shatravas and the girl students also shared their experiences, future plans, targets and preparation for acquiring good positions in their life.

Later the members along with guests distributed the stationary among the students.

Farewell to various employees of SKIMS

SRINAGAR: Director SKIMS/EOSG Dr. A.G Ahangar accorded farewell to various employees of SKIMS who attained superannuation today on 30th May , 2020.

Director SKIMS/EOSG while bidding farewell acknowledged the contribution of these employees who served in various capacities in different departments of SKIMS. He said their meritorious services have immensely contributed to the growth of this Institution in their capacities as inspiring administrators, managers and skilled manpower.

Director SKIMS also presented Citations to these employees as a mark of recognition of their outstanding services and contributions in transforming the dream of this Institute into an "Island of Excellence".

Those who were present on the occasion included Dean Medical Faculty SKIMS, Medical Superintendent, H.O.D Nephrology, Hospital Administration, Superintending Engineer IT and other Sectional heads of various departments.

Working Journalists frames association under banner of Bhalessa Bunjwah Thathri Journalists Association

The working Journalists across the hilly terrain regions of Doda and Kishtwar, today framed the association under the banner of Bhalessa Bunjwah Thathri Journalists Association. The meeting was attended by scores of journalists and various issues were discussed for administrative redressal.
During the course of the meeting, Senior Journalist Ishtyak Malik presented the welcome address and framed the association under the name and style of "Bhalessa Bunjwah Thathri Journalists Association" .
Firdous Khanday was given responsibility of President of association whereas Ishtyak Malik was elected Gen. Secretary, Rafi Choudhury was elected Chief Advisor and Shafqat Sheikh was elected Chief Spokesperson of the association.
The association was framed among which Ravi Vanshi and Ch. Mohd Saleem were elected as Vice President, besides Akram Malik as Joint Secretary, Arjun Thakur as Publicity Secretary, Anzer Ayoub as Advisor, Bilal Bhalessi and Ishtyak Batt as  Organisers, Baber Nafice , Arif Suhail Malik, as Executive members of the association for the year 2020-21.
The association president Firdous Khanday lauded the efforts of working Journalists during the country wide lockdown of Covid 19 pandemic. Adding the the district administration must appreciate and encourage the works of Journalists during Covid 19 pandemic.
The working Journalists urged upon the entire media fraternity for unity and fight for the cause of justice. They appealed to the general public for wearing masks and maintaining social distance to avoid the spread of Covid 19 pandemic.

Historical decisions were taken by PM in six years : Sat

JAMMU: On completion of six years of Narendra Modi led NDA government at Centre, virtual conferences were held across the State. To highlight the achievements of Narendra Modi Government 2.0, BJP has taken the initiative of reaching out to public through social media and other online platforms.BJP National President JP Nadda also held a virtual Press conference in which he showed the achievements done by Central leadership during its six years tenure and particularly in last one year which started with the second tenure of Central Government. 

BJP Jammu West celebrated this day by distributing nearly 600 sanitizers amongst general public.The sanitizers were provided by Mahila Morcha General Secretary Er. Urvashi Gupta and handed over the same to Former State President BJP Sat Sharma (CA) along with District President Munish Khajuria and Mahila Morcha UT President Sanjita Dogra. District General Secretaries Advocate Rajesh Gupta and Advocate Karan Sharma, Mandal Presidents Raveesh Mengi and Keshav Chopra, District President Mahila Morcha Radha Sharma were present.

Speaking on the occassion Sat Sharma (CA) termed last six years period of Modi Government as historical and said that the work done by Central Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is extraordinary and particularly the work done in the last one year shows that how much serious our Prime Minister and his team are concerned about the welfare of commoners in our country. Historical decisions including abrogation of 370, construction of Ram Mandir, Abolition of Tripple Talaq, powerful Defence structure of the country, welfare of common masses through various schemes and Stopping cross border terrorism and infiltration and many other decisions taken by Modi Government have glorified the image of our nation worldwide.

He also stated that even in these tough times during pandemic situation, when the other countries on planet were facing distress and panic, our country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi took extraordinary initiatives to stop the spread of COVID-19 and we have set up a vast infrastructure now to tackle the pandemic, he added.

Munish and Sanjita also stated that we will reach out to masses in coming days by keeping in view all the norms of social Distancing and will keep working for betterment of society. They said that man to man contact programs and virtual programs will be conducted to gather more mass support for BJP in coming times.

Sunil Dimple opposes increase of petrol & diesel price and installation of smart meters

JAMMU: Sunil Dimple President jammu west assembly movement in a strong message to the prime minister Narinder modi that the no harsh steps, like increasing prices of petrol, diesel, tool  taxes and installation of the toll plaza of Lakhnapur should be taken in this  pandemic and the economic crises faced by the residents of jammu Kashmir people and are dying of poverty and starvation. .

Dimple in his message has strongly opposed the jammu Kashmir govt decision  for hike in the petrol price, diesel prices in  jammu Kashmir from 1st June and against the installation of one Lakh fifteen thousand smart meters in Jammu Kashmir. Out of which in Jammu 80,000 smart meters will be installed and in Kashmir 35,000 only.

Operations in social sector to be permitted from June 1 in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: The Srinagar administration is looking to permit more sectors to operate after the end of the current phase of the lockdown enforced in the district in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

To begin with it has decided to allow the social sector of the district to start operating from June 1.
Concerned departments which work in this sector have been asked to submit relevant details and plans of operation. The latter will have to include a detailed sketch of how adherence to all relevant guidelines and SOPs will be ensured.
