Earlier, working as daily wage labourer, Hatib could hardly bear the expenses of his family with a meagre earning. “Sometimes I would not get work for many days and all my savings dried up those days, and this feeling of not being able to save money for my dream of being self-reliant by becoming self-employed had left me depressed”, said Hatib.

NIT Srinagar gets 59th rank in Indian Institutional Framework ranking

SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta today stressed on the officers of the Rural Development Department (RDD) to hold at least one monthly meeting of all the line departments for ironing out the issues related to  development in each panchayat. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, School Education; Commissioner Secretary, RDD; DG Budget; MD, JKRLM; Directors RDD Jammu/Kashmir and many other concerned officers and officials of the department.

Dr Mehta impressed upon the officers to ensure that each village is clean, hygienic and there is smooth implementation of schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission, DDUGJY, MGNREGA, PMGSY etc. He asked them to have regular interdepartmental meetings to formulate strategies for monitoring and better planning for each panchayat.

Stadiums & Indoor Sports Complexes come alive with ‘My Youth My Pride’ activities across J&K

JAMMU/ SRINAGAR: With the target to include around 14 lakh youth in the Phase-II of ‘My Youth My Pride’ programme after the successful completion of Phase-I which witnessed participation of around 9 lakh youth across J&K, the programme is a massive hit among the sporting circles of J&K. In the Jammu division, hundreds of players participated in the events held for Gymnastics, Football, Hockey Judo, yoga, Boxing, and Cricket in the Kathua Stadium and Indoor Sports Complex Billawar in the Kathua district.

The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, the National Security Advisor, Shri Ajit Doval and other senior officials of the Government of India, including the Army and Jammu & Kashmir Government attended the meeting.

COVID-19: JK reports 229 fresh positive cases, 470150 recovered

JAMMU/SRINAGAR: The Government today informed that 229 fresh  positive cases of novel Corona virus (COVID-19) have been reported today; 41 from Jammu division and 188 from Kashmir division, thus taking the total number of positive cases to 476932. Moreover, 395 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals including 91 from Jammu division and 304 from Kashmir division. 02 COVID deaths have been reported from Jammu division.

Outlook Traveller Awards-2022 - J&K bags award for promoting offbeat destinations, adventure tourism

NEW DELHI: J&K Tourism has bagged an award for promotion of off destinations at the national level at the Outlook Traveller Awards-2022. The award was presented by Union Minister for Tourism & Culture, G Kisan Reddy to Secretary, Tourism, Sarmad Hafeez at a glittering function here this evening. The award was given to the Tourism Department for promoting Gurez in the category of offbeat tourism destinations. J&K Tourism also bagged the silver award for adventure tourism at Gulmarg.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Tourism Minister said it was satisfying to note that tourism in J&K has seen a turnaround in the last two years and the tourist arrivals this year have crossed a record number. He said under the new film policy, shooting of films in J&K has been revived and is being incentivized.
