Discipline, moral education prevents youth from taking wrong decisions: Omar
JAMMU, FEB 1: Highlighting the role of NCC in shaping young minds, the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah Monday said that participation in National Cadet Corps (NCC) instills the essence of discipline, good conduct, love, cooperation, bravery and patriotism in youth and nurtures them as worthwhile citizens of tomorrow. The Chief Minister was addressing NCC contingent which took part in this year’s Republic Day Parade at New Delhi on 26th of January and called on the Chief Minister here to brief him about their performance. Mr. Omar said that the sense of purpose young boys and girls imbibe as members of National Cadet Corps guides them throughout their life and prevents them from going led astray. “Present day TV, cinema and internet scenario provides different sketches of life styles to the youth and there is every possibility for them to take wrong steps. However, the discipline, moral education and good conduct the young boys and girls assimilate as cadets prevents them from taking any wrong decision”, he said suggesting large scale participation of students in the NCC programmes. Mr. Omar said the NCC uniform makes the cadets responsible, honest and hardworking persons and inculcates in them the spirit of love, public service and zest to achieve laurels for them, their parents, for the state and the country. “The uniform educates you about the basic human values and polishes your personality in all respects”, he told the cadets and advised them to practice the high principles they get from NCC training in their day to day life. The Chief Minister lauded the cadets for getting 9th position and receiving special prizes at the Republic Day Parade this year and expressed hope that within next couple of years the J&K cadets will scale to the pinnacles getting first position in the event. He also praised the replica of the 26th January scintillating cultural programme presented by the cadets before the Chief Minister here today depicting the history, geography, people, tourism, culture, heritage, handicrafts, art, fruits and agricultural practices of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. “In a 30 minutes performance you exhibited all beauties of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh in most befitting and artistic manner”, he said praising the NCC cultural group. The Deputy Director General of NCC, Jammu and Kashmir, Brigadier, Anil Gupta while presenting the trophies and cadets led by Contingent Commander, Lt. Col, Arun Pandey to the Chief Minister, expressed gratitude to Mr. Omar for his patronage. He gave resume of the prizes won by the contingent as a team and its members as individually. He said that the J&K Directorate of NCC secured 9th position this year against 16th position last year and received special trophy for highest improvement in the performance. The Advisor to the Chief Minister, Mr. Mubarak Gul, the Secretary, Education, Mr. G. A. Peer and officers of the J&K Directorate of NCC were present on the occasion. The Brigadier Anil Gupta presented a rare photograph of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah taking salute at NCC Parade.
JU’s Satellite Campus Doda: Govt hangs fate of 32 aspirants
DODA: The Satellite Campus of Jammu University (JU) at Doda which was inaugurated by former Chief Minister (CM) Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ex-Vice Chancellor (VC) of Jammu University (JU) Prof Amitabh Mattoo has hanged up the fate of 32 female aspirants, who had applied for e-learning course about two years ago. The reasons, sources said, are lack of interest from all those who are concerned and the Government in developing the Satellite Campus of JU at Doda. Since its inauguration, many District Development Board (DDB) meetings have taken place but this particular issue was never raised in any of the meetings neither has anyone from the political circles taken up this issue with the Chief Minister (CM). Sources said that a proposal has been submitted to the Government for the creation of posts and for the other required infrastructure but Govt has adopted a delayed tactics over the proposal submitted. The Satellite Campus has only one fourth class employee at present. In this Satellite Campus office Doda computers have been made available but without staff so from 27/06/2008 to 2010 no classes have been conducted. Initially it was announced that the office was inaugurated with a aim to empower the women of the region by imparting basic knowledge of computer application like accounts maintenance, internet management and office automation. Even application forms were invited for e-learning course for women candidates only. The forms where purchased and submitted by 32 female aspirants after paying Rs 100 as cost of form for 12 advertised seats. The course fee was mentioned as Rs 2000 with basic qualification at 10+2 and it was clearly mentioned that the preference will be given to the candidates with low income group. In total 32 forms were submitted two years ago and the selection was supposed to be made on the basis of screening test but till date the Jammu University(JU) authorities have failed to select 12 candidates. A candidate Shahida Bano said, “We are waiting since 2 years but have not received any intimation. Whenever we ask the concerned about interview they reply with saying-interview card will be posted at your home address.”
