Foundation of Receiving Station laid at Kargil

Chairman/Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Kargil Kachoo Ahmad Ali Khan laid foundation of 66/11 KV, 6.3 MVA Electric Sub Station at Kargil today. Executive Councilors, Councilors and Deputy Commissioner Kargil alongwith other senior officers of district administration were present on the occasion.
Chief Engineer, RGGVY Leh/Kargil Amitab Srivasto informed that the Sub Station will be one of the five such Sub Stations being constructed in the area along with construction of 110 Kms, 66 KV Transmission lines and 510 Kms 11 KV/LT lines under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna (RGGVY) in Kargil district. The RGGVY, a Scheme of Rural Electricity Infrastructure and Household Electrification has been launched by Government of India.
He said under this scheme, electrification of 8 blocks of Kargil district is to be done. The entire power distribution system has been designed to utilize the power generated from 44 MW Chotok Hydro Electric Project, which will help in the development of the Kargil region. These Sub Stations will upgrade the existing system to 66 KV (Standard System Voltage) so that power loss is minimized. The work on the entire power distribution system in the Kargil district will be completed in two phases. The work of first phase is scheduled to be completed by October 2010. The implementation work of Kargil district is being done by NHPC Limited.
