I will carry Opposition along: Omar


“I would carry the people, the administration and the Opposition along with in my mission to revolutionize the State’s Politico-economic scenario”, while mentioning it Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister (CM), Omar Abdullah on Friday said that he has left the episode of allegation leveled against him behind and added that he is looking forward with renewed energy to serve the people of the State sincerely.

Addressing the media in his office chambers in Civil Secretariat Srinagar, Omar said that the personal attack on his character by PDP would not stop him to seek the active cooperation from the Opposition in the drive to seek peace and progress in the State.

“I am not a person to extract revenge but I will still reach out to the Opposition for cooperation in the larger interests of people of Jammu and Kashmir”, he said and added that I am back to deliver and work for the betterment of the people.

Stating that healthy government requires healthy opposition he said and added that people have not elected us to throw mud at each other and indulge on character assassination. “The 60 to 70 percent voter turnout in the Assembly Elections-2008 has indicated the public faith in the legislators. We have to rise to the occasion and come to their expectations”, he said adding that people want us to raise public issues and resolve the problems in the Assembly and not expect from us to waste the time by stooping to personal attacks and mud-slugging.

Abdullah said that legislators are the representatives of the people and should be role model for everyone so that democracy roots deep and bloom in a healthy and conducive political environment. “We have to strive for this and remove the bad impression about politicians from the minds of the people by rendering stupendous service for the public good”, he asserted.

CM said that the decision to resign was difficult but to give respect to the highest office of Chief Minister and uphold high standards of political behavior, ‘it was must to be taken’.

Omar assured that the development schemes would be carried forward with zest and determination to reach out to every area for economic betterment and balanced growth.. He appealed the people to be active participants in the development process and monitor the works for better results. “My government has a single objective to serve the people and deliver on ground”, he said and added that administration has been sounded in this direction and made aware that public service is the only criterion to judge the performance of government functionaries.

The Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Tara Chand, Minister for Finance, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather, Minister for Rural Development, Mr. Ali Mohammad Sagar, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. Taj Mohi-ud-Din, Minister for Industries and Commerce, Mr. S. S. Slathia, Minister for Social Welfare, Ms Sakina Itoo, other Members of the Council of Ministers, Advisor to Chief Minister, Mr. Mubarak Gul, Political Advisor to Chief Minister, Mr. Davender Singh Rana, Chief Secretary, Mr. S. S. Kapur and Director General of Police, Mr. Kuldeep Khoda was present on the occasion.

Earlier, on his arrival at Civil Secretariat the employees led by President Civil Secretariat Employees Union, Mr. Nazir Ahmad and General Secretary, Mr. Ghulam Mehdi and officers in large number welcomed the CM and presented him garlands. The employees also raised slogans in favour of Mr. Abdullah.
