CM discusses micro hydel power generation in J&K with Dr. Abdullah

Union ministry to prepare roadmap for tapping vast potential  
Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah met the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah here today and discussed tapping Jammu and Kashmir’s potential non-conventional and micro-hydel power generation. 
The New and Renewable Energy Ministry also deals with setting up of hydel power projects below 25 MW generating capacity. After Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, J&K has the highest potential in micro-hydel power generation. 
The two leaders discussed the issue of indigenous power generation in the State. They also discussed the potential J&K offers in non-conventional, solar, geo-thermal and biogas energy through which electricity shortage especially in rural areas of the State could be overcome. 
The Union Minister said the State has vast potential in non-conventional energy which needs to be optimally exploited. He assured the Chief Minister that his ministry will do whatever is required to be done to harness the potential the State offers. 
Dr. Abdullah also called a meeting of officers of his ministry to discuss the issue and prepare a roadmap to achieve the desired results. The meeting was attended by Secretary, Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Principal Resident Commissioner, J&K, New Delhi, Mr. S. S Sahni. 
Dr.Abdullah said he will soon convene a meeting to discuss the issue threadbare which will also be attended by the Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah.
