Change food habits to avoid complications

SKIMS holds seminar on lifestyle diseases 
In order to create awareness about lifestyle diseases and sensitize youth about virtues of healthy living, an awareness programme - Awareness, Advocacy and Sensitization on Health (AASH), was organized by SKIMS for the students of Islamia College of Science and Commerce, here today. 
About 325 students of the college, besides teachers from the prestigious educational institution attended the seminar. 
Director, SKIMS, Prof. Abdul Hamid Zargar, while speaking on the occasion, identified unhealthy living habits prevalent in the society as a major cause of diseases like diabetes and asked students to change their food habits for better health. 
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Imtiyaz, Dean and HoD, Community Medicine, highlighted need for creating awareness about lifestyle diseases, which is emerging as a major public health problem. He also highlighted the role of youth in generating a vigorous campaign against such diseases.  
Dr. Khurshid Aslam, Additional Professor, Department of Cardiology, highlighted risk of ischemic heart disease. Dr. Sharik A. Masoodi, who also addressed the students, pinpointed risk factors in hypertension, its impact and gave details on means of preventing high blood pressure. 
Dr. Abdul Majeed Ganai highlighted the role of modifying eating habits by bringing in behavioral change for prevention of diet-related diseases. 
Later, Prof. M. A. Shah, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, and Prof K. A. Qazi, Programme Covenor, Islamia College appreciated the efforts and highlighted the role of youth in responsive citizenship and called upon them to act as ambassadors of the society to disseminate information among families and the society so that preventive measures can be taken. 
Pamphlets, both in Urdu and English, to create awareness among all classes of people about lifestyle diseases, risk factors and preventive measures were also distribute among students on the occasion.
